The Comoros Islands, scattered off the coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean, is not your typical destination spot. The people are Muslim, with a heavy Swahili influence, and the culture is rather traditional.  Meaning that there’s no alcohol and dress is modest.  Its odd nickname, Cloud Coup-Coup, comes from its history of over 20 coups since gaining independence in 1975.

Itinerary

Day 01 Arrive Moroni
Arrival in Moroni, Meet assist and transfer to hotel. Start of Comoros birding Services. Full day birding. Morning excursion at. Afternoon excursion at Iconi for egrets, kingfishers and other sea birds at Marabou Lake.
Overnightin Moroni.

Day 02 Moroni
Proceed to Full day excursion to Mount Karthala. Overnight camping on the mountain at famous Karthala Scops owl, Comoro bulbul, Karthala white eye, Comoro cukoo shrike etc. Overnight in Moroni.

Day 03 Moroni
Proceed to the way down, Humblot’s  flycatcher , Grand Comoro Paradise Flycatcher, Karthala Thrush, Comoros.Afternoon excursion to Chongodunda to discover grand Comoro Drongo, Comoro sunbirds, Comoro Cuckoo roller, Grand Comoro Green Sunbird. Comoro blue pigeon and Comoro Fodi, Grand Comoro Humblot’s Sunbird, Comoro Olive pigeon, Cape Turtle Dove, Comoro Tambourine dove. Overnight in Moroni.

Day 04 Moreni – Moheli island (By Flight)
Proceed to Moheli and transfer to hotel. Excursion to Miringoni to see the very famous Moheli green pigeon and Moheli brush warbler and Thrush. Overnight in Moheli Island

Day 05 Moheli Island
Moheli Island Proceed to Ziroundani for birds’ camp to look for Moheli Green Sunbird, Moheli blue Vagan and Moheli scops Owls. Overnight in Moheli Island.

Day 06 Moheli Island – Anjouan Island (By Flight)
Proceed to Anjouan island.Afternoon/evening excursion to Dzialandze to look for Anjouan Scops Owls.
Overnight in Anjouan Island

Day 07 Anjouan Island
Proceed to discover a variety of indigenous birds,  Anjouan cuckoo roller, Anjouan sunbirds, Pale Paradise Flycatcher etc. Overnight in Anjouan Islan.

Day 08 Ajouan Island – Mayotte (By Flight)
Proceed to Mayotte. Welcome and transfer to Relais Forestier, a very special birding lodge.  Here you can see all endemic birds easily around the lodge without guide, that include the evening Mayotte Scops owls singing around the lodge. Overnight in Mayotte.

Day 09 Mayotte
Proceed to full day birding around this rich natural location. Overnight in Maytte.

Day 10 Mayotte – Moroni (By Flight)
Proceed to Moroni. half-day birding on Moroni. Overnight in Moroni.

Day 11 Depart Moroni
Departure transfer onwards destination.

The Comoros is a volcanic archipelago off Africa’s east coast, in the warm Indian Ocean waters of the Mozambique Channel. The nation state’s largest island, Grande Comore (Ngazidja) is ringed by beaches and old lava from active Mt. Karthala volcano. Around the port and medina in the capital, Moroni, are carved doors and a white colonnaded mosque, the Ancienne Mosquée du Vendredi, recalling the islands’ Arab heritage.

Day 01 Arrive Moroni (By Flight)

Day 02 Moroni
Proceed to famous fishing village of Iconi. Visit the ruins of the sultan palace built in the 18th century and photo stop at the historical adjacent cliffs where local ladies commit suicide in the time of slavery. Visit of famous Marabou lake  and continuation to the ylang ylang and spices plantation. Visite famous ylang ylang distillerie and drive back to Moroni for national museum, olad market and Medina with its beautiful narrow streets and colourful material shops

Day 03 Moroni
Full day tour of Grande Comore, Comorian traditional folkloric dances  In  Mbeni village. Including visits to Mitsaniouli village, a Ylang-Ylang plantation, Lac Sale (salt lake) and Chomoni with its excellent beach.
Overnight in Moroni. 

Day 04 Moroni – Moheli Island  (By Flight)
Proceed to the beautiful Moheli island with its marin parks. Drive to Laka Logde bungalows.

Day 05 Moheli Island
Embark to enjoy this beautiful island. We have not pre-arranged  sightseeing and activities in Moheli which is very easy to explore. Relax and enjoy the different pace of life and meet the friendly local people. You have most beautiful beaches, Sambadjou and Nioumachoua. You can also snorkel to discover the rich marine life or even go whale and dolphin watching. Finally at certain times of the year you may be lucky enough to see giant turtles lay their eggs at night on Itsamia beaches. Overnight in Moheli Island.

Day 06 Moheli -Anjouan Island (By Flight)
Proceed to Anjouan island, pearl of Indian Ocean. City tour of Mutsamudu to discover historical citadels and Medina of Mutsamudu. Overnight in Anjouna Islad

Day 07 Anjouan Island
Full day tour of Anjouan. Visit of the col de Patsy with its famous valley and spice plantations. Continuation to the Ylang ylang distillery of Bambao and proceed  to the famous Tatringafalls before stopping at Domoni to discover the historical muselet of late president Abdallah. Pic nique lunch and drive to the agricultural lands of Nyumakele before returning  to the hotel. Overnight in Anjouna Island.

Day 08 Anjouan Island – Moroni   (By Flight)
Proceed to Moroni Gde Comore. Overnight in Moroni.

Proceed the full day beautiful north of the island. Photo stop at the table land of Diboini with its seven cones of instinct volcano craters. Comorian traditional folkloric dances  In  Mbeni village followed by visit of agricultural cooperative with its local perfume plants and distillery.  See local lemurs and tortoises. Continuation to beautiful Bouni beach for Barbecue After Lunch,Visit of famous Dragon Rocks and best panoramic view of the turttles’ islands.  Turttles use to lay the eggs on the beach.  Continuation to the Salt Lake which water is reputed to heel skin diseases.Visit of famous miracle mosque and drive back to the hotel.
