Ibiza is one of the Balearic Islands, an archipelago of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea that is well known for the lively nightlife in Ibiza Town and Sant Antoni, where major European nightclubs have summer outposts. But, look beyond this and find a home to quiet villages, yoga retreats and scenic beaches with quiet sandy coves backed by pine-clad hills found all around the coast.

Large portions of the island are now registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites and thus protected from the development and commercialization of the main cities. Notable examples include the Renaissance walls of the old town of Ibiza City which were awarded UNESCO status in 1999, they are one of the few world’s Renaissance walls that were not demolished, and part of the medieval wall is still visible. At “God’s Finger” in the Benirras Bay there are some of the more traditional Ibizan cultural sites such as the remains of the first Phoenician settlement at Sa Caleta.

Stray from the typical path and find a cozy hamlet, a sacred and awe-inspiring church or on the north coast a secluded cove and experience Ibiza’s unknown peaceful side. This picturesque and scenic island offers so many options for an unforgettable day of exploring.

Your small-group tour is the perfect way to see Ibiza, a rock island covering an area approximately 10 times larger than Manhattan. One of the five Balearic Islands off the Western coast of Spain, Ibiza is best known, of course, for its year-round sun, sea, sand, and clubbing. The innovative music scene in Ibiza has been so influential that its trademark genre of chilled-out dance music has come to be known as ‘Balearic House’, and the place has made superstars out of previously anonymous DJs who have now been catapulted to celebrity status.

For those who manage to tear themselves away from the intoxicating atmosphere of the beach and the 24-hour party scene, there is a wealth of history and culture to be found in the interior of the island and also in the ancient capital city of Eivissa – Ibiza Town. Discovered by the Carthaginians in 654BC, around the same time the Greeks came to the island and named it Pitiusas, which translates to pine-covered island. The island was full of merchants and traders and was an important trading center, with a large harbor and strong defenses. The main goods traded were salt, known as White Gold. In 123 BC the Romans conquered Ibiza and named it Ebusus. The Moors invaded in the 9th century and stayed for almost 500 years. These days the island was called Yebisah. Since then it has been invaded and conquered by the Catalans, and even at one point, pirates!

Your full-day excursion covers many of the highlights of the island including the famous Saltworks, Las Salinas, where the first official reference to Ibiza’s salt-works originates from the time of Punic rule, which began in 540 BC when the Carthaginians conquered the island.

The Village of San Jose is a charming village in the west of Ibiza, in the foothills of Sa Talaia, the highest mountain on the island, which measures 475m. San Jose is the capital of the area of the same name and boasts excellent restaurants, shops, and bars. The main street is lined by an impressive church where you can sit under the shade of the courtyard trees for a peaceful repose.

The port of San Antonio is the second largest town in Ibiza and is at the heart of the islands clubbing scene, which some people call the ‘clubbing capital of the world’. Continue to the most northern point of Portinatx, formerly a very small fishing village, a bay on the island of Ibiza.

Next up is the Santa Eulalia area, the third-largest resort on the Balearic Island and one of the more popular resorts for families. You won’t find any all nightclubs here, just a charming and tranquil resort with a beautiful beach and an excellent choice of restaurants and accommodation. If you are visiting on Wednesday or a Saturday, your day may include a visit to the Hippy Market.
