Day 03: Underberg – Sani Pass – Mokhotlong
This morning, depart Underberg and stop by Sani Top Chalet at Sani Pass for an early afternoon tea. Next, proceed to Black Mountain Pass and walk to a vantage point to view Thabana Ntlenyana, the highest peak in Southern Africa. Thereafter, sight the stunning Sehonghong Valley and stop by 10 Riverside for an ethnic Basotho experience. Then, arrive in Mokhotlong, once regarded as the most remote outpost of the British Empire for your overnight stay.

Day 04: Mokhotlong – Liphofong – Katse
After breakfast, travel down Moteng Pass to Liphofung, a cultural and historical site of San people and later, Basotho. Next, proceed towards Bokong Nature Reserve, stopping by Leriba for some craft shopping. Bokong Nature Reserve is best known for its attractive Lepaqoa Falls. Thereafter, proceed to Katse Lodge for your overnight stay.

Day 05: Katse – Sani Pass
After breakfast, visit Interpretive Centre and enjoy a tour of Katse Dam wall. Next, proceed towards Sani Top Chalet. En route, you will pass by Thaba Tseka, Linakeneng and St James Mission before arriving at the chalet, the highest pub in Africa for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 06: Sani Pass – Maseru
This morning, enjoy a sunrise breakfast on the deck of Sani Top Chalet, overlooking Kwa Zulu Natal, if the weather permits. Next, descend Sani Pass and proceed back to Maseru.

Day 07: Departure Maseru
Enjoy a private airport transfer from your hotel to the airport for your flight home.

The maritime atmosphere of Kiel is reflected in a view of the Port of Kiel to the many sailboats, ferries and freighters in the Kiel Fjord. Due to the natural seawater harbor the imposing offshore ferries and cruise ships can be seen directly in the city. Step into comfortable sightseeing buses and let the informative and live audio commentary provide you information about Kiel’s history and monuments as well as interesting facts about our vibrant city.

On the eastern shore of Kiel, you can see the distinctive towers of the shipyards and the submarine memorial at Laboe on the horizon. Observation of Kiel Holtenau locks deck show the freighters and cruise ships in your journey through the locks of the Kiel Canal up close.

The journey continues through the former fishing Holtenau and invites you to a stop at Holtenauer Lighthouse. A detour takes you past the 350-year old university town, then to Holtenauer Street and downtown for a shopping spree. Looking back to the city, the sight is dominated by the Kiel City Hall tower, which can be visited. The Kiel City Hall, the Opera and the Kiel Castle clearly show the historical development through the resulting destruction of the Second World War.

Directly afterwards you can feel the close connection of the city to the water in Hiroshima Park and Kleinen Kiel, which runs as a former estuary in the city. Sporty Kiel boasts among other things, handball and football, the tour takes you past the stages of THW Kiel and Holstein Kiel. Finally, you can discover the redesigned Kiel Central and the Horn, where a new district on the waterfront in the heart of the city arises. You will be able to enjoy an audio-guided tour, with pre-recorded commentary in 8 different languages, so you can learn all about Kiel while enjoying the beautiful sights.

This half-day excursion will allow you to taste and explore some of what this city is all about. Like all of Germany, Schleswig-Holstein cuisine is dominated by Scandinavian and British influences that have, over the centuries, made their way into Kiel’s kitchens.

Be greeted at the pier by your local, friendly English-speaking guide and set off on foot to sample the morning’s catch with a freshly prepared fish roll on the waterfront as you stroll past the huge ferries docked in the city’s main harbor, then begin to make your way toward Kiel’s Old Town.

Once in the Old Town, you will see the stately Town Hall, the Kieler Hauptkirche (central church), and the city’s Monastery. At the Monastery, you will have the delectable chance to sample local beers brewed by the monks while snacking on Kieler Sprotte (smoked fish traditionally served with beer). Appropriate for a maritime city, Kiel’s traditional delicacy is smoked fish. Authentic Kieler Sprotte will be smoked in a wood-burning oven, over beech and alder boughs and will be presented in wooden boxes. The proper way to eat them is by eating the whole fish, head, tail bones and all because the fish is so soft.

For dessert, you will pay a visit to a bon-bon factory before the tour ends at the Old Market (an approximately ten-minute walk from the Ostseekai), where there is plenty of time to explore more of the city on your own.

The Kiel Fjord and the village of Kiel were probably the last settled by Vikings who wanted to colonize the land that they had raided, as for many years they had settled in German villages. Formed by ancient glaciers, the Fjord extends for 11 miles from the city of Kiel up to the Baltic Sea.

Along its length, you can see both the remains of Viking settlements and fishing villages, as well as massive shipbuilding, works. As a major maritime center, the Schleswig-Holstein capital of Kiel is where the 1938 and 1972 Olympic sailing events were held.

Your private transportation will take you past Germany’s largest shipyard, the HDW, with its mammoth gantry cranes, through the government district and past the old Olympic Port and Tirpitz Harbor into the Maritime Centre.

Next, you will cross the Kiel Canal for breathtaking views of the big ships in their lock chambers and on up to the waterway’s stunning Sailing Centre before stopping off at the Holtenauer Lighthouse.

Then take a step back in time when Kiel was the heart of Nazi Germany’s fearsome Kriegsmarine, visit the site of a dry-docked WWII submarine. (Exhibit entry is extra and at your discretion).
