Day 02: Lilongwe – Viphya Plateau                              B-L-D
After breakfast drive to the Viphya Plateau and enjoy stunning views of the highlands.
You will visit the Viphya is to experience the wild. In the forest plantations there is a sense of peace and tranquillity as one walks through the dense, sweet-smelling pines. The birdlife is famously varied. As well as the lesser double collared sunbird adopted by Luwawa Forest, there are osprey, eagles, buzzards, herons and egrets to be seen. Bearded vultures have also been reported. While the birdlife is widely spread, mammals tend to be seen more likely to be seen near the dambos and along the stream courses. The Viphya is not a wildlife reserve nor a safari destination but there may still be occasional sightings of some small mammals the likes of bushbuck, duiker, monkeys and baboons. The plateau is also home to leopard, civet, porcupine, mongoose and hyena.

Day 03: Viphya Plateau                                B-L-D
On this day you can ride mountain bikes or hike through the forest trails and watch the spectacular array of birds in the beautiful gardens. Viphya is a great, dissected plateau aligned parallel to the Great Rift Valley (containing Lake Malawi).
Dotted with small isolated hills called inselbergs, it forms the spine of North Malawi, with its highest peaks rising over 1800 metres (6000 feet). The saddle in which the city of Mzuzu lies splits the Viphya and to the north it meets Lake Malawi very abruptly, leaving no space for lowlands at the lakeshore. After our mountain bikes we will be go back to our lodge.

Day 04: Viphya Plateau – Nyika National Park                       B-L-D
After breakfast drive to Nyika Plateau, Malawi’s oldest and largest game park. This is where we will wonderful for time to do trekking and mountain biking as well as more conventional 4×4 excursions and safaris. There is such a lot to see in the vast park: waterfalls, a neolithic rock shelter, trout pools and even a ‘magic lake’ are just some of the attractions beyond the breathtaking vistas and wildlife encounters. After having a free afternoon to explore the fascinating landscape during a optional game walany activities that will be choosed.

Day 05: Nyika National Park                  B-L-D
Having full game drive or an optional of spending the whole day exploring or soaking up the atmosphere of the beautiful open plains on the Nyika Plateau. Nyika being a montane vegetation is home to a diverse array of wildlife including large numbers of antelope, Hyena and jackal are occasionally seen and there are a number of species of smaller mammals such as warthog and bushpig. Elephants and buffalo usually keep to the lower ground on the northern edge of the park but more elephants were brought in to the park a couple of years ago and they do very occasionally make it up to the higher plateau.

Day 06: Nyika National Park – Lake Malawi                      B-L-D
After an early morning breakfast, leave the plateau and drive towards the lakeshore stopping for lunch in Mzuzu, the big city of Northern region. After our lunch in Mzuzu we will continue with our drive to the beach of Africa’s third largest lake,

Day 08: Lake Malawi – Lilongwe Departure                           B
After breakfast departure transfer to the airport to catch the flight for onward journey.

Day 01: Arrival Into Lilongwe, Malawi
You are met upon arrival in Lilongwe and transferred to your hotel. There are no planned activities today except for dinner and your orientation meeting with the group.

Day 02: Explore Lilongwe, To Lake Malawi
We have an early start to explore Lilongwe with a city tour including Lilongwe Natural Sanctuary, the old town and the new parliament building and Kamuzu Memorial Pillar and Mausoleum. After lunch, we depart for Lake Malawi.

Day 03: Cape Maclear, Lake Malawi National Park
Today we have a full day on Lake Malawi to soak up the culture and atmosphere of this lake that takes up much of this small country. We have visits to a local fishing village and school.

Cape Maclear – Lake Malawi National Park is home to an amazing diversity of mbuna, the dazzling tropical fresh water fish. Cape Maclear, a World Heritage Site, encompasses the Nankumba Peninsula – the promontory that splits this part of the lake into two arms and also various offshore islands. The scenery is a spectacular rocky outcrop rising from deep waters clad with tropical growth mountains, sandy beaches and covers densely wooded islands, sand dunes and reed marshes. As many as 500 species of fish have been identified in Lake Malawi, most of which are endemic to these waters. Prolific bird life including the African fish eagle provides bird enthusiasts and nature lovers with hours of excitement and interest.

We also have a stop at Mwala wa Mphini (which dates back to the Iron Age).

Days 04 – 05: Liwonde National Park
Today we travel south to Liwonde National Park where we safari by jeep and boat! Liwonde National Park is a true evocative of a vanishing Africa. Here you can experience the best of Malawian safaris. Hippos bask in slow moving pools and crocodiles lurk on mudflats. Here is the dream of an Africa that has lured explorers along this very river into the heart of Africa. The bird life here is prolific and is considered one of the top birding locations in Southern Africa. Cheetah and lions have recently been re-introduced to the park as well as black rhinos. We will also visit a local village to experience a glimpse of local life. Optional early morning walking safari (no extra charge).

Enjoy late afternoon game drives and sundowners in 4×4’s that allows off-road exploration on the tracks along the river.

Day 06: Kungoni Center Of Culture And Art (Mua Mission) To Lilongwe
Today, after a early morning game drive, we travel to Kungoni (Mua Mission) which is the best museum presenting the country’s history, culture and art. The museum describes Malawi’s three tribes, namely Yao, Ngoni and Chewas, their origins and their battles, slave trade influence, Christian and Islam influence and more. It is also an ideal place for buying Malawian wood carvings. In the afternoon we enjoy a traditional cultural dance performance before making our way back to Lilongwe.

Days 07 – 09: South Luangwa, Zambia, Game Drives
Today we depart early to travel to the border of Zambia, where our destination is South Luangwa, where we will spend the next three nights. Here we enjoy game drives in search of big game, including the elusive leopard. An abundance of wildlife such as elephants, monkeys, hippos and a wide variety of antelope often pass through the camp. Keep your cameras with you at all times as the safari does not stop when you get to the lodge…the wildlife comes through the camp!

Day 10: To Lower Zambezi
Today we will travel to one of the lesser visited regions, but one of the best game viewing regions in Zambia, the Lower Zambezi. Upon arrival we will transfer to our lodge which is situated on the Zambian banks of the Zambezi River, in the unfenced wilderness of the Lower Zambezi Valley. Located within the Chiawa Game Management Area adjacent to the Lower Zambezi National Park, with traversing rights of over 5,500 square kilometers, the camp boasts magnificent views across the broad expanse of the Zambezi River to the Unesco World Heritage Site of Mana Pools in neighboring Zimbabwe.

Days 11 – 12: Lower Zambezi River & National Park, Safari By Boat
The next two days we will safari by boat looking for some of the common animals that are sighted all year round such as elephant, buffalo, hippo and crocodile. Further down the river within the Lower Zambezi National Park, lion and hyena are regularly sighted. Leopard and wild dog are not uncommon. We will also have an opportunity for a walk to a nearby village to meet some of the local community.

Day 13: To Harare, Zimbabwe
Today we say goodbye to the Lower Zambezi as we travel by boat to Chirundu and then by road to Lusaka for our flight to the capital city of Harare, Zimbabwe. Situated high on the country’s central plateaux, picturesque, open and light filled, Harare’s streets are lined with flowering trees, modern buildings, numerous parks and gardens as well as open air markets.

Day 14: Depart Harare
After breakfast transfer to Airport to catch the flight for onward journey.

Day 01: Arrival Malawi   
Today you will be arriving at Barefoot Lodge where you will have the opportunity to meet your guide and get acquainted with your equipment as well as having the opportunity to discuss the itinerary and meet fellow travelers.
Meet at 17:30 at Barefoot Restaurant. If arriving early there is an opertunity to explore the nearby villige via the local Kabaza (Bicycle or Moterbike taxi) at an aditional cost.

Day 02: Liwonde via Dedza   
Departing after breakfast we make our way to Liwonde National Park. We will be traveling via Dedza Town and if time allows, we will visit the very well known Dedza pottery. Lunch will be en-route and we will arrive in time to setup camp and enjoy the sunset and our first campfire. Clients will be expected to participate in setting up camp, assist with meals and cleaning of dishes. Before departure clients will be expected to help with breaking up camp..

Day 03: Day on Safari   
Getting up early we leave camp after coffee and rusks to be on Safari (Own vehicle) as soon as possible. We will be spending the morning in the park searching for wildlife and that perfect photo opportunity. For brunch (something in between breakfast and lunch) we will turn back to camp and during the heat of day be around the lodge. In the afternoon we have the opportunity to do another game drive with our own vehicle or book a Game Drive with the lodge (Optional). At the lodge they also have different activities available which can be arranged the day of arrival – Bush walk, night drive or boat Cruise (Optional).

Day 04-05: Lake Malawi   
After breaking up camp and having breakfast we head north towards the well-known Lake Malawi. Passing villages like Mangotchi, we arrive in time at Cape Maclear to set up camp and get a glimpse of the third largest lake in Africa
Depending on the time we will have lunch either en-route or at Cape Maclear. Here we have 2 nights and a full day to explore and enjoy what this part of the lake has to offer. Various water-based and other activities can be booked and arranged from our accommodation at an aditional cost.

Day 06: Along the shore of Lake Malawi    
Today we head further north along the shore towards Selima. Here we will leave the camping equipment on the vehicle and enjoy wat the lodge has to offer. Arriving during, or just after lunch we still have the afternoon to partake in a bout trip around the island(Optional) or just enjoy the view from the terrace or lazing around the swimming pool.

Day 07: Back to Lilongwe Departure    
After a relaxed morning we make our way back towards the capital city – Lilongwe. En-route we visit Kuti Wildlife Sanctuary and if we lucky we find the resident zebras close to, or even inside the restaurant. We will arrive in Lilongwe late afternoon. Your guide will drop you at your accommodation within Lilongwe. If any assistance is needed with accommodation on this day, we are welcome to assist at Barefoot lodge. We can also arrange for transport to the airoprt if needed.
