Program

The bustling town of Marmaris is a fishing village-turned-party town, a resort town smack dab in middle the gleaming Turkish Riviera. Even with the glitter and roar of the nightlife and the holiday crowds, there is still a lot of charm in this port city.

The town wraps around a crystal blue bay, which sits at the feet of rugged, tree-topped mountains. Yachts serenely bob in front of the colourful stacks of buildings winding their way down to the water. Your tour of Marmais will take you through the marina into the downtown core of the city, to the Marmaris Castle, which houses a museum with many local artifacts. The castle was invaded by Alexander the Great in 334BC, then rebuilt to battle again in the 16th century with Suleyman the Magnificent when he invaded Rhodes.

After your visit to the Castle and its museum, use the rest of the time on your tour of Marmais to explore the city on your own. Try some of the local delicacies at a café or restaurant, or stop by one of the city’s charming boutiques to pick up a souvenir.

Program

Stroll through the historic small towns and villages of Turkey and get a glimpse into the history of this magical country on a comprehensive tour. You’ll leave the port city of Marmaris and head to the small bayside village of Orhaniye. Tree-lined mountains surround the spectacular azure bay, referred to by locals as Kizkumu, meaning Maiden’s Sands.

Legend has it that, in an attempt to reach her lover, a young woman filled her skirt with sand, then walked forward as she filled the sea with sand, drowning when she ran out. In the shallow waters of the bay, you’ll find a statue of the maiden in question. In the bay, there is a sandspit you can walk across that gives the illusion of walking on water.

Once you’ve had your fill of legend, you’ll head to Bayir Village, touring through the surrounding hills and valleys. This will be a great opportunity to take panoramic photos of the peninsula. The village of Bayir dates back to 200 BC and features a 2,500-year-old Mosque. You’ll also find the Wishing Tree there, a 2,000-year-old tree fabled to bring you good luck if you walk around it three times and wish for happiness,

The last stop of the day will be Icmeler, a resort town on the Datcha peninsula featuring another sprawling view of the bay below. After that it’s back to port.

Skip the modern tourist traps and step back in time to visit the rustic villages of Bayir and Turgut. These charming villages give you the opportunity to see what life was like in ancient Turkey. This Marmaris tour is ideal for travelers seeking an authentic Turkish cultural experience.

Your adventure begins as you and your small group enjoy stunning scenic views on your way to Bayir village, nestled high in the mountains. Locate the 2,000 year old Plane Tree in the main square and circle it three times for a long and happy life. See a lovely mosque and rub elbows with the locals as you sip delicious tea at the teahouse. Taste the famous pine honey harvested by local villagers.

From there, you’ll head to nearby Turgut, where you can snap photos of a beautiful waterfall, a 300 year old watermill, and panoramic canyon views. Then, visit a Turkish artisan to learn about the interesting tradition of carpet weaving before returning to port.
