Paraguay is an unspoiled, friendly country that can be a surprise-filled add-on to the trips to its better known South American neighbors. Paraguay is divided into two distinct regions, separated by the Rio Paraguay. The southeast region is distinguished by a subtropical climate, thick forests and meandering rivers; 98% of the people live here.

Paraguay’s northwest, known as the Chaco, is a sparsely populated cattle-raising and wetlands region offering great wildlife and bird-watching options.

When considering Paraguay, two things are of special interest: it is one of two landlocked countries on the continent and its Indian language, Guarani, endures, often the language of preference outside the capital.
