Day 04: Western Serbia : House on Drina, Sargan eight train & wooden city
After breakfast, it’s time to hit the road toward Western Serbia, known for its wild and untouched nature, tasty cuisine, and friendly and hospitable people. Our first stop is a world-famous attraction, “The House on the Drina”, an isolated house made of logs on a river stone. After a photo stop and refreshment, we will continue our trip to the famous Sargan Eight. A unique narrow-gauge railway nowadays serves only for amusement. We will pass and stop on several viewpoints during our ride, from which one can see fabulous views over Mokra Gora. Authentic cars with wooden seats, wood-burning stoves, and characteristic rattling sounds will take us back to 1925 when this railway was put in operation and made a connection between Belgrade and the Adriatic Sea.

The next stop is Mećavnik, or Drvengrad (Wooden City). The famous director Emir Kusturica (two times Palme D’Or in Cannes winner), decided to build it during the shooting of his film “Life is a miracle.” He chose to convey ruined wooden chalets from the mountain’s slopes, restore them, and form a new settlement. After we have fed our eyes and souls with beauty, we will finish our day in Kraljeve Vode, the tourist center of Zlatibor mountain. The region of Zlatibor is famous for its healthy air, folk architecture, native culture and traditions, wealthy and diverse ethnic heritage, its widely-renowned culinary specialties, healthy food, and the balmy climate. After the check-in, we’ll have dinner in our hotel, and after that, you’ll have free time to enjoy and relax.

Day 05: Western Serbia: Zlatibor mountain – uvac special nature reserve – ethno village Sirogojno – Zlatibor mountain
After only one hour of driving, we’ll find ourselves in the pure beauty of Uvac Canyon. For centuries, the Uvac River has been making its way through the mountains, leaving deep meanders and creating caves that attract many tourists. If we’re lucky, we’ll get a chance to see the mighty griffon vulture, whose population in Uvac is the largest in Europe. The bird’s wingspan is about 3 m, and it can weigh up to 11 kg, thus making it the largest bird in Serbia.

We will take a boat trip and follow the river as it twists and turns through the impressive landscape, stopping at two caves called Ušak and Ledena (Ice). We’ll not leave the Reserve before we take some fantastic photos from the viewpoints overlooking the canyon.
After this exceptional experience, the tour will return to Zlatibor and visit Sirogojno, a village famous for its ethnological museum and ‘Sirogojno sweaters’ made of raw wool. You will see the Ethnological exposition of the open-air museum known as the Old Village before heading back to the hotel. Free time.
Overnight in Zlatibor.

Day 06: Central Serbia : Studenica & Ziča monasteries
This day is reserved for the “Valley of the kings,” where the medieval Serbian state was founded. Our first stop is Studenica Monastery, located in a lovely landscape. Studenica is one of the most valuable and most significant monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is the second Serbian monument that had the honor to be included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage in 1986.

We will continue with our trip, and our next stop will be Žiča monastery. Žiča has a great significance for the history of the Serbian people and their churches. The first archbishop of the autonomous Serbian Church, Saint Sava, here crowned his brother as a king and ordained the bishops of the newly-founded dioceses. We will end the day in Vrnjača Banja (spa ), or in “The Queen of Serbian spas,” as it is often called. Walk around the beautiful park and promenade to end the day in a relaxing and calming manner.
Overnight in Vrnjačka Banja spa

Day 07: Southern Serbia : NIŠ
Today we will visit the born city of the famous Roman Emperor, Constantine the Great, city of Niš.
First, we will visit the Niš Fortress, lying on the bank of the Nišava River. It assumed its final shape in 1723, when the Turks built it, facing the end of their reign in this area. We will continue our sightseeing of the most important sights in the city, including Banovina Building, Niš Liberators Monument at King Milan Square, The Monument of well-known Serbian writer Stevan Sremac, Mediana Archeological Site, and the infamous Skull Tower – the monument unique in the world, erected by the Turks as an example to others of the folly of opposition to their rule.

We will conclude our sightseeing with a visit to Red Cross Nazi Concentration Camp, today a museum. The German Gestapo operated the camp and held captured Jews, Serbians, and Romas during the Second World War. We’ll enjoy some of the food that Niš is famous for before we continue our trip to Eastern Serbia and Borsko Lake. Use this afternoon to relax in the hotel’s pool or walk around and enjoy the beautiful nature.
Overnight in Borsko Lake.

Day 08: Eastern Serbia : Golubac fortress & Iron gate gorge
In and around Golubac From Bor Lake, we continue further to the very east of Serbia, to its border with Romania. Two hours of the ride we’ll spend enjoying the beautiful landscapes and listen to interesting stories about this part of the country.
We’ll start our exploring with a boat ride through the famous Iron Gate gorge. We’ll check the Tabula Traiana a Roman memorial plaque from the Ist century erected to mark the end of road construction. After the boat ride we will stop in a unique authentic restaurant with a fantastic view overlooking the Danube to enjoy a traditional lunch made of specialties of the cuisine of Eastern Serbia (not included).
Following this, we will reach our next stop – Lepenski Vir. The early settlement of Lepenski Vir was first uncovered in 1965. The works brought to light sacred architecture and monumental sculptures from one of the oldest Danube cultures, dating back to 7,000-6,000 BC, also marking the beginning of Europe’s civilization.

Our last stop for the day is the Golubac fortress. This defensive complex used to defend many kingdoms through centuries. Golubac is the perfect fairy-tale castle, wonderfully set off by its location in the rugged landscape at the head of Đerdap Gorge.
There are nine towers in all, each between 20 and 25m high. With the fortress’s interesting position leaning over the Danube, they make Golubac undoubtedly one of the most beautiful castles along the 2850 km Danube odyssey from source to the Black Sea.
Arrive in Belgrade in the evening.
Overnight in Belgrade

Day 09: Belgrade leisure day
This is your last day in Serbia, so use it to slowly and leisurely see more of Serbia’s capital. Perhaps you can visit the Zemun neighborhood, the most charming quarter of Belgrade. You’ll love it for its Central European appearance, cobblestone streets and fish restaurants on the banks of the Danube River.

Another option is to visit some of Belgrade’s most famous museums: the National Museum or Nikola Tesla’s Museum, or maybe the House of Flowers, the Memorial to the late Marshal Tito, leader of Yugoslavia for over 40 years.
If you are a nature lover, check some of the jewels of “Green Belgrade,” such as Ada Ciganlija lake, Košutnjak Forest, or The Botanical Garden.

In the evening, have dinner in some of the restaurants with a view of the Sava and Danube rivers, and say farewell to Serbia.
Overnight in Belgrade

Day 10: Depart Belgrade
After Breakfast. Departure transfer to the airport to catch the flight for onward journey.

Serbia has a unique mix of stunning natural beauty, warmth and open heartedness, fantastic cuisine, and vibrant city life. Its capital city Belgrade is a metropolis offering a world-class selection of cafes, bars, restaurants, and nightclubs. Travelers from all over the world come to enjoy its beauty and admire the architectural styles in its iconic neighborhoods. Some of the most gorgeous sunsets can be seen from Novi Sad’s Petrovaradin fortress, while you enjoy a stroll overlooking the terracotta-colored roofs of the city. Perhaps, one of the most stunning experiences you will have is a boat ride through Uvac Special Natural Reserve. The Uvac river has been making its way through the mountains leaving deep meanders and creating caves that annually attract lots of tourists. Combine breathtaking nature with hearty Serbian meals and incredibly kind locals and you have the recipe for a beautiful holiday.

Day 01: Arrival to Belgrade
Upon arrival in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, you will be welcomed by your driver and escorted to your hotel. On the short coach ride from the Nikola Tesla airport, sit back, relax and enjoy the sights of New Belgrade with its prominent ‘blocks’ – a classic example of Socialist architecture, built after World War II – and modern business centres, including the imposing Ušće Tower. Along the way, your driver will show you and tell some stories about the Western Gate of Belgrade, the famous Belgrade Arena and the monumental Palace of Serbia. Check-in at your hotel. Use your free time to rest and prepare for the trip.

You will be informed about a brief meeting when your guide will present themselves and provide all the necessary information regarding the tour.

For the rest of the evening, we recommend you take a short, leisurely walk through one of the oldest quarters towards the bohemian heart of Belgrade – Skadarlija. In a charming 19th century cobbled street you will find numerous ‘kafanas’ where you can try delicious local specialties while listening to traditional music. Overnight.

Start point
Belgrade Airport Nikola Tesla, Surčin, Grad Beograd, Serbia

Day 02: Belgrade Great Sightseeing Tour // Leisure day
After breakfast, you will embark on a tour (driving and walking) around Belgrade, a capital city well known for its various architectural styles, dynamic history and fantastic views of one of the biggest river confluences in the whole of Europe.

Start the tour visiting the Museum of Yugoslav History, a memorial complex devoted to the life and deeds of Josip Broz Tito, the political leader of Yugoslavia. Next, you will pass by the stadium of FC Red Star – the former European and World Cup champions, and proceed to the Temple of Saint Sava, Belgrade’s patron saint. Very much a symbol of the city, this impressive building can be seen from any part of the capital.

After a short break at the Temple’s plateau, the panoramic tour will then take you from Slavija Square, to Saint Mark’s Church, the Serbian National Parliament and White Palace, and on to Republic Square. This most central point of Belgrade is surrounded by such cultural institutions as the National Theatre and National Museum.

The tour will then head along the lively Knez Mihailo Street, the main pedestrian and shopping zone, before stopping for a visit to the Orthodox Cathedral Church of Saint Michael the Archangel, which is located just across from the Building of Patriarchate. Your guide will tell you about the tavern around the corner, the oldest in the city and intriguingly known as “?” (Question Mark), before continuing on to Kalemegdan Park and Belgrade Fortress, the most important cultural-historic complex of the city, situated on the confluence of the rivers Sava and Danube.

Day 03: Vojvodina Heritage Tour: Fruška Gora – Sremski Karlovci – Novi Sad (Optional excursion)
Breakfast. Choice between a free day in Belgrade or a trip to Novi Sad, Petrovaradin and Sremski Karlovci (optional excursion). On this tour, you will explore the most interesting sights of Vojvodina, a province in the north of Serbia. You will be driven through picturesque scenery and Serbia’s famous wine region towards the ‘Serbian Holy Land’, home to 17 functioning Serbian Orthodox monasteries. You will visit well preserved monastery Krušedol, where you’ll have the opportunity to buy wine and rakija made by the monks.

The tour continues on to town of Sremski Karlovci. A real gem of Serbian culture and spirituality, Sremski Karlovci feels like a ‘museum town’ with its Baroque centre, the Patriarchal Court, the Orthodox Cathedral of Saint Nicholas and the first Serbian secondary school (gymnasium). It is also famous for wine production and the town’s annual Wineball festival. You will finish your tour of this charming town with a visit and wine tasting at one the region’s most prominent wineries.

Further on the tour, you will visit the 2021 European Capital of Culture, Novi Sad. Located on the historical border of two former empires – the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman – as a result, the capital of Vojvodina is a multi-cultural city with an interesting mix of architectural influences. On a sightseeing tour around the city, you will walk around the city’s pedestrian zone, past the City Hall, a Catholic church, the old city centre, the former house of Albert Einstein’s wife Mileva, the cultural foundation Matica Srpska and a synagogue. Then you’ll follow the right bank of Danube and visit Petrovaradin, or the so-called ‘Danube’s Gibraltar’, where the fortress is located. Drive back to Belgrade. Overnight.

Day04: Resava Treasury Tour: Manasija Monastery – Resava Cave – Lisina Waterfalls (Optional Excursion)
Breakfast. Choice between a free day in Belgrade or a trip to Resava Treasury tour – to visit the Manasija Monastery, Resava Cave and Lisina waterfalls (optional excursion). Departure from Belgrade in the morning hours, driving towards the first sights of the tour. The Manasija Monastery (Resava) with its Church of the Holy Trinity is located in central Serbia along the right bank of the Resava River. Like a military fortification with towers, large walls and trenches, Manasija was built during the rule of Despot Stefan Lazarević in the early 15th century.

The Turks conquered the monastery in the 15th century and the Austrians in the 18th, so by the 19th century the monastery had been restored twice. The Manasija floor mosaics and wall frescoes, along with various architectural styles of objects of Manasija represent a real rarity of Serbian medieval architecture and old Serbian paintings. There are also the preserved ruins of the refectory and library – home to the Resava School of Transcription.

The tour then heads to Resava Cave, which was discovered long ago and is still one of the most interesting caves in Serbia. The cave and the surrounding 11 hectares of land are considered a natural monument and thus protected by the state. Lunch will be served at a restaurant near the Lisina waterfalls, another of Serbia’s spectacular natural monuments. Return to Belgrade. Overnight.

Day 05: Belgrade – Mokra Gora Mountain – Sargan 8 – Wooden-town – Zlatibor Mountain
Breakfast and check-out. Morning departure from Belgrade, heading west towards the picturesque Ovčar-Kablar Gorge, through which the West Morava River meanders. The tour will continue on to Tara National Park, and you will have time to reflect on its beauty from aboard the authentic, retro ‘Nostalgia’ train which runs along the narrow-gauge heritage railway, Šargan Eight. Travelling from the bottom of Šargan mountain on a route shaped like the number eight (hence the name), you will be transported back in time while enjoying the stunning mountain scenery and numerous tunnels and viaducts.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the railway used to be a part of the railway from Belgrade to Sarajevo. After enjoying the breathtaking nature, you will arrive at the ethno village Drvengrad (Wooden Town), built by prominent movie director Emir Kusturica. The village, which includes the Mećavnik Hotel, houses, galleries, shops, a cinema and a church, is made of natural materials, mostly wood. Since 2008, the village plays host to the annual Küstendorf Film and Music Festival and Drvengrad has been visited by the likes of Johnny Depp, Monica Belucci, Jim Jarmusch and many others.

After exploring Drvengrad, there will be a short drive to the famous Zlatibor Mountain, home of the first royal resort in Serbia. Here you can enjoy a relaxing walk around the quaint town centre of this picturesque air spa. In the evening, an enjoyable dinner of traditional Serbian food typical of the region will be served in the hotel.

Day 06: Zlatibor Mountain – Uvac Special Nature Reserve – Ethno Village Sirogojno – Belgrade
Breakfast and check-out. Departure from Zlatibor in the morning, transfer to Uvac Special Natural Reserve, located between the mountains Javor and Zlatar. The main attraction of the reserve is its population of griffon vultures. The griffon vulture is a relatively rare species of bird of prey whose population in Uvac is the biggest in Europe. The bird’s wing span is about 3 m and they can weigh up to 11 kg, making it the biggest bird in Serbia. However, the griffon vulture is not the only attraction of the reserve; for centuries, the Uvac River has been making its way through the mountains, leaving deep meanders and creating caves that annually attract lots of tourists.

The tour will take a boat trip and follow the river as it twists and turns through the impressive landscape, stopping at two caves called Ušak and Ledena (Ice). After the exciting boat trip, the tour will return to Zlatibor and visit Sirogojno, a village famous for its ethnological museum and ‘Sirogojno sweaters’ made of raw wool. You will see Ethnological exposition of the open-air museum known as the Old Village before heading back to Belgrade. Hotel check-in. Overnight.

Day 07: Departure
Breakfast and hotel check-out. As most of our clients decide to extend their trip within their own organisation, transfer to the airport at the end of the tour is not included in the overall price. Any guests who would like Tour Operator to organise a departure transfer on their behalf are welcome to contact us. End of services.
