Day 01: Pristina – Gracanica monastery– Ulpiana – Prizren
Arrive Pristina meet and assist at the airport and drive to Prizen. The first destination of today is the Gracanica monastery. This monastery is seen as one of the most attractive ones in Kosovo. Inside of the church, you have to cover your knees and shoulders and women must wear a head scarf. You first enter the large chapel that has many medieval paintings. The smaller chapel is even more impressive with murals in bright colours. It is not allowed to take pictures inside, luckily the outside is just as picture-worthy.

After the monastery, our tour will continue to Ulpiana. You would probably not expect this in Kosovo, but the country has its own Roman Empire ruins. The ancient city of Ulpiana was an important centre of activity politically, economically and culturally. Many objects have been found on the site as well, such as sculptures of a woman’s head, a man’s head and a theatrical mask. You can still see the divisions between the different rooms and even a few stones are engraved with scriptures dating back to the Roman era.

Our final destination is Prizren. The city is considered to be the cultural capital of Kosovo, mixing its rich history, incredible nature, religious tolerance and gastronomic delights. You will get some free time around 12:30 on every day of the tour to enjoy a delicious lunch and wander around by yourself till 14:00. Prizren has played an important role in the region as an Illyrian settlement and as a crossroad for the Byzantine and Ottoman empires, contributing to the unique architecture of the city. The river flows through the heart of the old town and under the many bridges that crisscross the city. The best way to explore the town is by wandering through the streets passing by elegant medieval houses that fight for your attention.
Overnight in Prizren.

Day 02: Prizren – Prevalla National Park – Prizren
After breakfast we will move towards Prevalla National Park. The first thing we will see are the Sharr mountains that are getting more and more impressive as we get closer. The Lepenci River also begins in this mountainous terrain. The National Park is a popular ski location but also a beautiful place for a hike through amazing landscapes. This is what we will do, we will go for a hike once we arrive at the Prevalla village. After a day surrounded by the stunning Kosovar nature, we will return back to Prizren.
Overnight in Prizren.

Day 03: Prizren – Rahovec – Mirusha waterfalls – Place near the waterfalls
In and around Rahovec
Today we will drive towards the west of Kosovo. Here we will bring a visit to a winery inside of a castle and the vineyards that stretch out to the horizon. They offer various wines to taste. The town of Rahovec is known for being important in Kosovo’s wine industry. They proudly display the tombstone of an Illyrian soldier, dating back to 28 B.C. The tombstone is covered with carvings in the shape of grapes, which would indicate the long history of wine in the region.

Later continue our tour to another natural wonder, the Mirusha waterfalls, standing out from all the other waterfalls in the Balkans. It is a famous site in the country consisting out of two separate waterfalls. The water has created canyons around the waterfalls, making the site even more impressive. When you visit the waterfalls in the winter, they might be frozen, which gives a spectacular look. During the summer, you can take a dive in the inviting waters.
Overnight near the waterfalls.

Day 04: Place near the waterfalls – Decan – Gjakova
After breakfast drive to the city of Gjakova. On our way, we will make a stop at the Monastery of Decan. This one stands out for its white colour, but even more remarkable is the fact that Orthodox monks still inhabit the monastery and make fresh organic food there, such as cheeses. The monastery became part of UNESCO in 2004 because of its frescoes, which portray the lives of people during the 14th century as well as the Palaeologan renaissance that changed the way of Byzantine painting.

After this, we will arrive in Gjakova. The city has the oldest and largest bazaar of Kosovo. Even though, it got destroyed during the first Balkan wars, the second world war and the Kosovo war, the bazaar got rebuilt again to its old state and is a nice place to enjoy a meal or to take a look at the stores that sell traditional clothing and items. We will also visit the clock tower and the Hadum mosque. The latter was built in the 16th century and somehow managed to survive the wars. Nowadays it shows the beginning of Islamic architecture in the Balkans, covered in stunning arabesque decorations.
Overnight in Gjakova.

Day 05: Gjakova – Peja – Rugova Valley
In and around Peja
Our journey continues towards Peja. The city has one cultural UNESCO heritage site, the Patriarchate of Peja, located near the entrance of the Rugova Valley. This medieval Orthodox Monastery was built in the 13th century, having four churches in a beautiful red colour. After visiting the monastery, we will wander through the characteristic Old Bazaar of the city.

From Peja, we will go to Rugova Valley. No matter what season it is, Rugova Valley looks beautiful during all of them. Waterfalls, rocks, small villages, lakes, caves and numerous mountains with high peaks is what makes this national park a must-see destination in Kosovo. We will go for a hike through the valley and drive through the Accursed Mountains.
Overnight in Rugova Valley.

Day 06: Rugova Valley – Prekaz – Mitrovica
Today we will dive into some quite recent history of Kosovo, first by visiting the village of Prekaz. The Prekaz village memorial of the Jashari family includes a memorial ground, a museum and the house of the Adem Jashari family. You can still see the bullet holes in the original house and Adem Jashari is buried nearby. In 1998, the Serbian police force launched an attack that caused the lives of Adem Jashari and 50 family members. The deaths of the Jashari family sparked protests all around Kosovo. Nowadays, Adem Jashari is seen as the national hero and you will find his name and image throughout the country.

Our next destination is the city of Mitrovica in the north of Kosovo. This city is divided in two halves, one having an Albanian population and the other a Serbian population. When crossing the New Bridge, that divides the two parts, it looks as if you are arriving in a completely different city. We will bring a visit to the Xhamia e Zallit mosque, built in the Ottoman style, and the Saint Demetrius church, built in Orthodox style. In the distance, on top of a mountain, the Miner’s monument is visible, which was designed in 1973 in honour of the workers that died during the Second World War.
Overnight in Mitrovica.

Day 07: Mitrovica – Pristina
Our last destination of this tour will be the capital of Kosovo, Pristina. Here we will make a city tour. Not to be missed is the Newborn monument, symbol of their independence and being a young new country. We will also visit the Cathedral of Saint Mother Teresa with its own clock tower. The National Library of Kosovo is a building that definitely stands out from the rest, consisting out of 73 white domes. The main boulevard in the capital, Sheshi Nena Tereza, is a nice street to stroll through and enjoy a delicious meal or coffee at one of the restaurants. Here we will also pass the Skanderberg square with the statue of Skanderberg himself, the national Albanian hero. We will visit the Old Bazaar in Pristina with nearby the ethnographic museum that shows the traditional Kosovar life.
Overnight in Pristina

Day 08: Depart Pristina
After breakfast departure transfer to airport to catch the flight for onward Journey

Day 2 Prizren
Proceed to Prizren the second largest in the country is a beautiful city situated in southern Kosovo close to the border with Albania. It is a historic city known for the arts and crafts, something which becomes obvious as soon as you approach the town centre. The cobble stone streets are beautifully crafted as are the shops, bars and restaurants built in a typical Ottoman architecture. It offers some great religious monuments representing different faiths, with the 14th century Orthodox Church of “Our Lady of Ljevis” possibly being the most important a part of the UNESCO list of protected Medieval Monuments of Kosovo.

Other monuments we will visit include: the Stone Bridge, bazaar, the Sinan Pasha Mosque built in 1615, Fortress of Prizren and near it the Church of the Holy Saviour, Church of St. George, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (Prizren’s main Catholic church from 1870). We continue visiting the Museum dedicated to the League of Prizren an Albanian political organization founded on January 5, 1877 taking official form on June 18, 1878. The League’s main scope was the protection of the rights of the Albanian nation during the breakup of the Ottoman Empire. It was a crucial step in raising Albanian national awareness, and paving the way to Albania’s Independence in 1912. Overnight in Prizren.

Day 3 Prizren–Rahovec–Mirusha Waterfalls–Decan–Gjakova-Prizren (3 hrs)
Proceed to a great day of discovery of some of Kosovo’s most important monuments. We start with a visit at the “Bodrumi i Vjeter” winery for a tour of Kosovo’s oldest winery and a taste of some of its best wines. Afterwards proceed to the beautiful Mirusha waterfalls for a peak at Kosovo’s wonderful natural landscape. Next is the Monastery complex of Decani considered the largest medieval church in the Balkans containing the most extensive beautifully preserved Fresco decorations, deservingly becoming part of UNESCO.

The monastery was constructed by Serbian king Stefan Urosh buried in the chapel and completed by his son Stefan Dushan in 1335. The catholicon has striking similarities to a roman catholic church made by its Franciscan monk architect, Fra Vita, from the Montenegrin town of Kotor heavily influenced by Venice architectural style. After the visit proceed to Gjakova which comes next, has a Grand Bazaar thought to be the oldest in Kosovo also known as Carshi, full of old houses & shops, a Turkish Bathhouse or Hamam and the 16th century Hadum Aga Mosque. Overnight in Pristina

Day 04 Prizren – Peja – Prekaz – Pristina (159 kms / 3 hrs 15 mins appx.)
Proceed to visit another very important religious complex, the Patriarchate of Peja constructed in the XIII century. It is composed of three small churches with beautiful frescoes. For its architectural and cultural values it represents, is part of the UNESCO protected Medieval Monuments of Kosovo. After visiting the complex we continue on to Vushtrri to visit the old castle in the middle of town and the old Stone Bridge. Kosovo has been for centuries a land of contrasts something which has been reflected in a troubled history ancient and recent. A testimony to this is the monumental complex of the Jashari family, at Prekaz, in honour of this family which in the recent 1999 conflict resisted till self-sacrifice of all members to give ethnic Albanian’s, a majority population in Kosovo the chance of self-determination.

Further north in Mitrovica we visit the fittingly named “Bridge of division” which separates the Albanian population from the Serbian one, a testimony to the still fragile peace. Continue to the capital Pristina, where just before arriving we visit the symbolic grave of Sultan Murad I, and the monument of Battle of Kosovo dedicated to the glorified battle of 1389 between a Balkan Alliance force led by Serbian prince Lazar against an Ottoman army led by Sultan Murad I. We arrive in Pristina the capital where after checking in we take a quick orientation walk through the main pedestrian area, the “Mother Teresa” Square, the National Library and the “New Born” monument which symbolizes the birth of this new state. Overnight in Pristina

Day 05 Pristina – Gracanica – Ulpiana – Novoberda – Pristina (100 km/3 hrs)
Proceed to today we will be exploring the Eastern part of Kosovo. We start with a walk to the Ethnographic Museum situated in a typical house of Ottoman architecture beautifully stocked with artefacts which testify to the traditions and way of living of the people in Kosovo.

At Gracanica we visit the superb 14th century Orthodox Church founded by the Serbian king Stefan Milutin in 1321, a triumph of Byzantine architecture and part of the Kosovo Medieval Monuments protected by UNESCO. Close by lay the remains of ancient Ulpiana the capital of the roman province of Dardania, a place earlier settled by the Illyrian tribe of Dardanoi where it took its name from. It flourished under roman rule and after being destroyed by an earthquake it was built under the cure of Emperor Justinian and started to be known as Justiniana Secunda.

Continue on toward Novoberda to visit its panoramically standing medieval castle which protected the mines of gold, silver and other metals found close by. Letnica is a village formally home to a Croatian minority in Kosovo, famous for its white washed church and a 400 years old blackened wood statue of the Virgin Mary, carved in the style of Michelangelo, known as “Black Madonna”. It is said to be one of very few Black Madonna’s found around the world. It is also the place that perhaps convinced Mother Theresa to become a missionary, on a pilgrimage to the Letnica church during the festival of the

“Black Madonna” back in 1928. After the visits return to Pristina with a stop at the Gadima cave which is 1200 meter long, also known as the Marble cave due its marble like colors full of crystallized stalagmites. Visit of the cave and return to Pristina.
Overnight in Pristina

Day 1 Arrive Pristina
Arrival at Pristina airport meet, assist and transfer to the hotel and then take a walking tour of the main sites including the Ottoman period mosques of Pristina with probably the most beautiful, being the Fatih Mosque dating back to 1461 during the golden rule of Sultan Mehmet II. Nearby is Pristina’s oldest building, the Carshia Mosque completed in 1389, the Clock Tower, the Monument of Scanderbeg (Albanian National Hero), and the striking monument of nine brightly painted steel letters spelling out the word ‘N.E.W.B.O.R.N’ designed in time for February 2008’s declaration of independence from Serbia.
Overnight in Pristina

Day 2 Pristina
Proceed to the beautiful Gracanica Orthodox Monastery located a few miles southeast of Pristina. Founded in 1321 Gracanica was commissioned by Serbian King Stefan Milutin and it was declared Monument of Culture of Exceptional Importance in 1990, while in 13 July 2006 it was placed on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Just a short drive south is the archaeological site of Ulpiana, the capital of Dardania, an Illyrian kingdom pre-dating the Romans as it was mentioned by Strabo an ancient Greek author. However it flourished under the Roman Empire and was mentioned as a glorious city “Urb Splendisima”. Ulpiana suffered numerous attacks from barbarian tribes and earthquakes.

Emperor Justinian rebuilt it and called it “Justiniana Secunda”. Proceed through the beautiful Sharr Mountains to reach Prizren the second largest city in Kosovo, where we visit: the Sinan Pasha mosque build in 17 century, the Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour and the 14th century Orthodox Church of “Our Lady of Ljevis” decorated with beautiful frescoes, part of the UNESCO list of protected Medieval Monuments of Kosovo. On the way back to Pristina stop at Gadima Cave, a karst limestone cave also known as Marble Cave. It was discovered by chance by a villager cutting stone in 1966 and remains largely unexplored. After visits of this beautiful cave return to Pristina.
Overnight in Pristina .

Day 3 Pristina
Proceed to in the morning drive to Peja to visit a very important religious complex, the Patriarchate of Peja constructed in the XIII century. It is composed of three small churches with beautiful frescoes. The Church of the Holy Apostles was the first church to be built by Archbishop Arsenije (d. 1266). For its architectural and cultural values it represents is part of UNESCO. Only about 20 km south lays the Monastery complex of Decan considered the largest medieval church in the Balkans. It contains the most extensive beautifully preserved fresco decorations, and is deservingly part of UNESCO for its importance in the preservation of World Heritage.

This monastery was constructed by Serbian king Stefan Urosh buried in the chapel and his son Stefan Dushan. Interesting is the fact that the catholicon has striking similarities to a roman catholic church which is explained by the fact that its architect was a Franciscan monk from the Montenegrin town of Kotor, with obvious influences from Venice and Ragusa. Afterwards drive to Gjakova which has a Grand Bazaar thought to be the oldest in Kosovo also known asCarshi, full of old houses & shops, a Turkish Bathhouse or Hamam and the 16th century Hadum Aga Mosque which we will visit. Return to Pristina.
