Tallinn
Tallinn

Estonia, a country in Northern Europe, borders the Baltic Sea and Gulf of Finland. Including more than 1,500 islands, its diverse terrain spans rocky beaches, old-growth forest and many lakes. Formerly part of the Soviet Union, it’s dotted with castles, churches and hilltop fortresses. The capital, Tallinn, is known for its preserved Old Town, museums and the 314m-high Tallinn TV Tower, which has an observation deck.

Day 01: Arrive Tallinn                      B
Arrive Tallinn meet and assist at the airport and transfer to Hotel.
Afternoon take a guided walk through medieval Tallinn. You will visit the most intact medieval city in Europe, with an original road system from the 13th century. Many houses from the 15th century are still in their original size and shape, all important and representative government buildings and churches are intact. During the city tour you will get to know the tour app and get tips from our city guide. They can then be free for the rest of the day. With the help of the tour app, it is possible to take a hike on the seafront promenade to explore the port area, the sea fortress or the sea airport.
Overnight in Hotel.

Day 02:Saaremaa – hiking trails and sightseeing                      B
After breakfast continue to Saaremaa Island, which offers many hiking and sights. Estonia’s largest island is characterised by juniper pastures and old fortified churches. Guests will take a walk along the Panga cliff with beautiful views of the Baltic Sea, visit Angla Windmill Park, Kaali Meteorite Crater and Karja Church with its pagan wall paintings. Hiking tours are possible on the north coast and in the high moor. Subsequently, there may still be time for the Sõrve Peninsula and its lighthouse in the south-west, where a new visitor centre has recently opened.

Day 03: Vilsandi National Park and island capital Kuressaare                    B
In and around Kuressaare, Vilsandi
After breakfast For hikers and nature lovers, the biggest highlight of Saaremaa is the oldest protected area in the Baltic region, the Vilsandi National Park. Founded in 1910 mainly to protect seabirds, the protection objectives of the National Park today include the preservation of the limestone coast, natural sandy beaches and more than 100 small islands. Several paths and hiking trails allow you to discover nature. Most guests visit the Harialaid Peninsula, where guests can make a 6 or 11 km hike along the sandy beach to the Leaning Lighthouse. Adventurers can even hike through the Baltic Sea along an island chain to the island of Vilsandi. There are good swimming opportunities on both hiking trails.

In the afternoon you can relax in the capital Kuressaare: stroll through the old town, visit the mighty bishop’s castle and sit in cozy pavement cafés.

Day 4: University city Tartu                        B
The next destination is Estonia’s intellectual and cultural center, the city of Tartu. With almost one hundred thousand inhabitants, Tartu is the second largest city in Estonia. Located by the Emajõgi River, most of the sights are compactly located and within walking distance. These include the statue of kissing students on the Town Hall Square, the museums and cafés located on and near the town hall square, as well as a large park that stretches across the cathedral hill. Northern Europe’s oldest university is just a few hundred metres away, and the bridges across the Emajõgi River are also visible from Town Hall Square. You can choose the length and duration of the city tour in Tartu. Whether you prefer the city centre or explore the cosy wooden house districts, is up to you.

Day 05: Lake Peipu, sandstone cliffs and hilly landscapes                     B
Today offers the most beautiful natural landscapes and unique cultural experiences in southern Estonia. After breakfast and a half hour drive you can reach the Taevaskoja Primeval Valley with its sandstone rocks. The 12 km trail runs along the banks of the Ahja River, with rock wall outcrops and caves. After that, they can join further walks in the area or set off directly to Europe’s fifth largest lake, Lake Peipus. Old believers who fled from Russia in the 17th century from changes to the Orthodox Church live on Lake Peipus. The houses in the villages on Lake Peipus are located on a main road that runs parallel to the lake and thus form miles of settlements. You can learn more about the local way of life on a museum visit or simply discover and photograph the wooden architecture of the small prayer houses. In Estonia, the area is also known for its onion and fish food culture. Guests are advised to enjoy local specialities in a restaurant or take some products with them.

Day 06: High moor and Lahemaa National Park                           B-L
After breakfast head back to the north. On the way to Lahemaa National Park today one of the most important destinations is on the program — a high moor hike. More than one thousand hectares of high moor complexes, which have been produced for more than 10000 years, are almost everywhere in Estonia. The Endla Nature Reserve offers 2-15 km of hiking trails through the high moor. The peat thickness is 8 meters and the peat moss body is soaked with fresh water up to 95%. Several advertising photos were taken from the Männikjärve lookout tower. The tower offers a view of the play of peat moss, the bog and the crippled pine trees. Nature lovers can observe some rare species of birds and plants in this extreme habitat. As a very pristine landscape and natural habitat, the raised moor is a very special natural experience for visitors.
In the evening, guests can enjoy the sunset on the Baltic Sea at Lahemaa National Park or have dinner in the manor restaurant.
Overnight in Hotel.

Day 07: Northern coast, mansions and taiga forest                    B
Lahemaa is the oldest and largest national park in Estonia. It was founded to protect coastal landscapes, raised bogs and taiga-like forests, which are characterised by huge boulders. The cultural highlights of the protected area are the beautiful mansions and traditional Estonian fishermen’s houses, which go back to German-Baltic history. For hikers, the National Park offers several longer and shorter hiking trails. Our tour app lists hiking trails between 1 and 15 km long, which will take you along the coast, through ancient forests, over the raised moor and to the manors. Of course, we give recommendations, but you can decide for yourself how far you want to walk and which sights you want to visit.
