Day 2 Bucharest – Tulcea (By Road) ( 279 kms / 3 hrs / 26 mins appx.)
Proceed to Start a city tour of Bucharest. Highlights: Parliament Palace (optional inside visit), Royal Palace, Revolution Square, Atheneum, Victory Palace, Triumph Arch, Old District.

Then we’ll go on the route to Tulcea a city on Danube River and the place where the Danube Delta starts.

Day 3 Tulcea
Proceed to half day boat tour of Danube Delta – the last wild delta of Europe, the home of a fascinating mix of cultures and peoples—and a huge diversity of birds, presided over by the greatest of them all, the pelican. You will have the opportunity to see such birds as glossy ibis, spoonbills, pelicans, rollers, white tailed eagle and more. Enjoy a traditional lunch. Overnight in Tulcea

Day 4 Tulcea – Gura Humorului (By Road) ( 450 kms / 6 hrs / 37 mins appx.)
Proceed to Bucovina – the land of the UNESCO painted monasteries. Depending of time we may have an optional stop at the Neamt Citadel.

Day 5 Gura Humorului
Proceed to visit couple of the most important painted monasteries built and painted in in 15th-16th century.
Voronet: founded in 1488 by Stephen the Great. It is the most accomplished sample of artistic achievement in Moldavian architecture and painting. The doors of the porch have a Renaissance framing, whereas the stone carvings of the broken arches at the doors and windows belong to the Gothic style.

Voronet Monastery had been dubbed the oriental Sixtine Chapel , whereas Voronet Blue, a color obtained from lapis lazuli, entered in the lexicon of art alongside Titian red and Veronese green, and to this day has yet to be reproduced by natural means.

Moldovita Monastery: dates back from 1532 and is due to the ruling prince Petru Rares It has the aspect of a fortress, with imposing towers and high, thick walls. The church has a three-cusped plan, as well as an open porch.

It Is decorated with scenes from the 16th c Moldavian life. You can see here the best preserved frescoes, with fresh and vivid colors.

Sucevita Monastery: the last and the most magnificent monastic achievement among the painted monasteries in Bucovina , looks as a real fortress, with towers, buttresses and watch roads. Built in 1581, by one bishop, it was dedicated to the Assumption in 1584. Paintings of the Sucevita monastery were best preserved both on the outside and on the inside Ladder of Virtue, the last Judgment, the tree of Jesse,)

Black Pottery Centre from Marginea village, famous for its black earthenware pottery renowned to date back to the ancient Dacian (pre-Roman) period.

Humor Monastery: dates from 1530, this monastery was among the first churches to be painted , the frescoes were painted in 1535. Humor is painted in reddish brown ( from oriental madder pigment), colors are brilliant and truthful to nature.

Day 6 Gura Humorului –Viseu-Ieud-Sighetu (By Road)( 230 km/5 hrs appx)
Proceed to visit Maramures County, maybe the most beautiful region of Romania – Maramures – the land of traditions and wooden churches.

First stop at Ieud where we can visit the oldest wodden church made in to the 14th century (UNESCO).  Don’t miss the The Maramures’s Woman Museum from Dragomiresti, where you can learn about maramuresean traditions and way of live. (only if time will allow).

Day 7 Sighetu – Sapanta – Sighisoara (By Road) (316 km / 5 hrs appx)
Proceed to Museum of Comunist Horror, a former communist prison where a lot of politicians, teachers, artists, students died because they was opponents of the new communist govern after War World II.

We’ll continue our visit with a stop at Sapanta and visit the famous Merry Cemetery, truly one of the most unique sites in Europe. It is famous for its colourful tombstones with native paintings describing, in an original and poetic manner, the persons that are buried there as well as scenes from their lives. The Merry Cemetery became an open-air museum and a national tourist attraction.

Our route will go then to Sighisoara. We’ll cross the heart of Transylvania on the way to Sighisoara. The road will guide us through beautiful mountains and hills area and you’ll have the complete picture of what the Transylvanian landscape is and why it is called – The green country. Optional stop at Turda Salt Mine, dating from ancient times.

End the day in Sighisoara, one of the most preserved medieval city from Europe. Situated in Mures County, on the valley of the Tarnava Mare river, Sighisoara (former Dacian settlement and also called “the pearl of Transylvania”) was founded by the German immigrants in the second half of the 12th century and it was turned into a city in 1407.

Its medieval aspect may be found both in the centre of the city and inside the Fortress of Sighisoara. In this area, houses are built very close to one another, giving a sense of “crowdedness” (in order to occupy the least space possible).

Day 8 Sighisoara – Bierten – Sibiu (By Road) ( 136 kms / 2 hrs 15 mins appx)
Proceed to visit the medieval citadel of Sighisoara. The city was foundated by the saxon’s stellers in 13th century and it was an important trade, cultural and religious centre. Main sights are: Clock Tower and History musum, Birthplace of Vlad the Impaler the famos and cruel Romanian prince, Church on the Hill, Covered Stairs, a.s.o. Then we’ll leave the citadel.

Next we’ll go to Biertan, nowdays a small village but 500 years ago the headqurter of evangelical bishops from Transylvania. Biertan Fortified Church, built in 16th century is the second largest fortress of its kind from Transylvania.

In the afternoon we’ll arrive in Sibiu and we’ll make a city tour. Sibiu – a former capital is one of the most important cities from Transylvania. The Big Square, the Small Square, the Ursuline Church, The Franciscan Church, The staircase Tower, the Tanners Tower, the Lier’s Bridge , the House of the Butcher’s Guild and  Bruckenthal Museum are the most important sights.
Overnight in Sibiu,

Day 9 Sibiu – Hunedoara – Alba iulia – Sibiu ( 395 kms / 4 hrs 45 mins appx.)
Proceed  to Hunedoara and we’ll visit the Hunyad’s Castle. The most representative castle in this part of Transylvania was built in 14th century and became famous as a property of Iancu of Hunedoara, the great ruller and fighter against the Ottoman Empire at that time.

Built in the 14th century, on the place of an old fortification, on a rock below which flows the small river Zlasti the castle is a large building, with tall and diversely coloured roofs, towers, windows and balconies adorned with carvings in stone.

Next stop at Alba Iulia. Having its origins back in 2nd century from Roman time, the city of Alba Iulia offers a journey through the history of Transylvania from ancient times to medieval and modern days.

We’ll visit the ruins of the Roman town, the medieval fortifications, the modern fortifications made in Vauban style, the Cathoilc Cathedral – the oldest from Transylvania and the Reunion Cathedral which commemorates the Union of all Romanian provinces in a single country.
Overnight in Sibiu,

Day 10 Sibiu – Bran – Rasnov – Prejmer – Brasov ( 220 kms / 4 hrs appx.)
Proceed to Brasov area, the South-Eastern area of Transylvania and probably the most important tourist area from Romania.

First stop at Bran Castle. Also called Dracula`s Castle, it is situated not far from Brasov (25 kilometres) at the entrance in the Bran – Rucar passage. The castle got its fame from Dracula`s legend written in 1897 by Bram Stoker and later on made into a film by Francis Ford Coppola.. The first documents about the Bran Castle appeared in 1377.

Along the history, the Castle had a strategic mission being the border between Transylvania and Wallachia. First it was under the rule of the King of Hungary Sigismund of Luxemburg, of the Romanian voievodes Mircea cel Batran and Vlad Tepes and later on it came under the jurisdiction of the City of Brasov. In the XX century the castle was donated to the royal family and becamed a royal residence.

Then go for a visit at Rasnov Fortress. Built in 1331, the Fortress had a defence role and it was a shelter for the inhabitants of Rasnov in case of enemy attacks. In the middle of the courtyard there is a well 146 metres deep and the ruins of an 11th – 12th century – Orthodox church were discovered here.

Nowadays the Fortress houses an interesting museum.

Next we’ll stop at Prejmer fortified church, the biggest fortress of its kind from East Europe. the biggest fortified church in the Southeastern Europe built in the 14th century. The fortress has double walls and dungeons. Inside its walls there is a church, but the interesting thing here is the honeycomb like inner wall. Every family had one small room for sheltering in case the village was attacked.
Overnight in Brasov,

Day 11 Brasov – Sinaia – Bucharest (By Road) ( 170 kms / 3 hrs appx.)
Proceed  to exploring the medieval center of Brasov. The city of Brasov is one of the oldest in Europe, dating from 1235. During the Middle Ages, Brasov was known as a powerful fortress surrounded by high stone walls and defended by bulwarks, towers and other small fortresses.A walking tour through the 8 centuries history of the city. Highlights: Council Square, Black Church, Weaver’s Bastion, St. Ecaterina’s Gate, Black and White Towers, medieval wall.

On the way to Bucharest we’ll stop in Sinaia with a visit at Peles Castle, former summer residence of the kings of Romania, the Peles Castle is probably the most beautiful castle from Romania hiding inside great decorations, furniture in a mix of styles from German to Italian and from Moorish to Indian.

Built at the end of 19th the Peles Castle was one of the most modern castles from its time. The museum host also ornamental objects, carpets, tapestry, sculptures, paintings, collections of weapons from the 15th up to the19th centuries.
